The bronze luster brings out many fine details of the Forest God of Windsor. His antlers branching out, facial features, waves of hair, muscle tone, upward green creeping vines, armbands and coiled staff. The stump he sits upon supports him well accompanied by a slithering snake.
Herne was a hunter for King Richard II in and around Windsor Forest. While saving the King's life he was attacked and mortally wounded by an antlered white hart. A local wizard brought him back to life using his magical powers which meant cutting the antlers from the dead animal and tying them to Herne's head. In doing so the antlers of the beast were gradually rooted to his head. In exchange for this deed Herne had to resign his hunting skills. Feeling removed from his livelihood he went insane running into the forest. The next day he was found dead hanging from a lone oak tree. Henceforth his ghostly image haunts Windsor Forest and surrounding areas thereof.
